In this ever-changing world, there's one constant I can rely on. This is that when I go to get my hair cut, I will be reprimanded for using boxed dyes (instead of paying 4 times more to have it professionally done), I will leave with bangs cut right in my eyes, and I'll have my hair styled in the poofiest way possible. This could also be why I usually get my hair cut maybe once every 6 to 12 months.
Actually, I came out of the place with a decent hair cut. If my hair was red again, it would look like Agent Scully's from the X-Files.
Oh, if you ever do an image search for Dana Scully from the X-files for your blog, you get a lot of strange fanboy stuff that comes up. Yikes!

Goodbye, old friends...
I finally had to retire my old, black Converse All-Stars this past weekend. The final straw was that the laces were so old that they snapped. They didn't snap as I was tying them or anything...no...they snapped as I was taking a stroll down the street to get a cup of coffee.
I had to stop and think about how long I'd been wearing these things. My mom got me these for Christmas one year when I was living in Chicago, which was a good while ago. So it was AT LEAST 4 years since I'd gotten them. And I'm pretty sure it was a bit longer than that. So, since I work in a very casual environment, I'd been wearing these babies almost everyday for probably over 5 years! As you can see from the pictures, the soles had been worn down until they were almost smooth, there were holes in the bottoms and on the sides, and they were torn up pretty well all over. But there's nothing like a good pair of these shoes when they're broken in really well. It's like getting to wear comfy slippers to work everyday. Ahhhhhh.....
Fortunately, I had bought myself a pair JUST LIKE THESE right before that Christmas that my mom bought me these. I'd been saving those shoes to replace these when they wore out. It took 5 years, and now I can finally bring out those back-ups! I shall not be without black converse sneakers!

Race for the Cure!
This past weekend I participated in the Portland "Race for the Cure". It incredible to join about 50,000 other people to raise money for a good cause! I raised about $200 with the help of some very generous friends and family, and Laika will match up to $100 of that. I think that's pretty good for just one person out of all the other enthusiastic people I met early on Sunday morning.
Thanks to all who donated for their support!

Adventures in Vancouver!
Last weekend I went to visit Sarah Mensinga in Vancouver, BC. It was a fun, quick weekend trip and I think I walked a marathon that weekend. Here we are on a boat tour. We decided to look like pirates with our bandannas...we were also too lazy to fix our hair.
Vancouver is a lovely city. Too bad that it was so rainy on the day I remembered to bring my camera, you can't see all the mountains surrounding the city.
We went down to Granville Island on Sunday. First stop was the toy store. Then we went to the market where I was saddened that I couldn't afford eat everything. There were so many great things there! We got some good food and came back with fresh fruit.
Hooray for the toy store!!!!!!!!
Hooray for deliciousness!!!
We went on a boat tour and the guy driving the boat hit on Sarah the whole time. Even after she told him she was married. He thought that the fact that they were both from Toronto and he let her drive the boat would make her fall madly in love with him!
It was a great trip. And I even found the ORIGINAL Joe's....who is this Joe that I married? he's not the original??!?!
Thanks for all the hospitality, Sarah!
